OUR TEAM
Expertise and Understanding
Tim Wolff is a distinguished Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and (APA) Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist and Exercise Physiologist. He has 20 years of experience in treating various conditions, including persistent pain, sports injuries, and mental health-related movement issues.
Tim's academic background includes Double Bachelor's degrees in Physiotherapy and Exercise Science, and a Double Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy from Griffith University - Gold Coast. His professional journey has taken him across Australia and internationally, most notably to Doha, Qatar, where he was the consultant tasked with integrating physiotherapy, exercise and movement into the fields of psychiatry and mental health and subsequently appointed manager of the Physiotherapy and Movement Department at Naufar, a green field project that became a CARF accredited internationally renowned facility for addiction, wellness and behavioral disorder treatment.
There, Tim developed the Active Community Model of Care, a holistic approach integrating co-treatment by psychology, physiotherapy, and exercise physiology within peer group settings. This model utilizes physical activity, exercise, movement, and body awareness practices to foster essential movement capacities, relational skills, and psychological expression. The aim - to facilitate both physical and psychological development, providing a supportive, collaborative environment where participants build foundational movement skills and develop deeper self-awareness and interpersonal connections. Tim's approach, using Movement as Medicine in an Active Community Model, leverages physical activity to stimulate the body's natural production of opioids and cannabinoids, promoting neurogenesis as a non-pharmacological treatment for mood improvement, pain management, and enhanced cognitive function. By using movement as a therapeutic tool, this method offers a holistic alternative to traditional treatments, addressing pain, mood, and cognition without medication (or in support of and to eventually replace), reinforcing the body's own capacity for healing and mental clarity.
Tim employs a minimalist footwear approach to foster a natural, dynamic relationship between the foot and the ground, using this connection to address conditions like hip and knee osteoarthritis, lower back pain, hernias, pelvic floor dysfunction and even anxiety and gut conditions. This approach empowers individuals to achieve pain-free function by promoting natural movement patterns that support the body’s biomechanics. As a footwear designer, Tim’s vision is to create shoes that bring people back closer to the ground, encouraging them to re-develop or discover their own internal cushioning mechanisms without the need for orthotics or cushioned footwear. His goal is to help individuals rediscover fundamental movements like running, jumping, skipping, and dancing, enhancing longevity, joy, and resilience in movement. He himself has run multiple half and full marathons in flat, flexible, wide at the toes, zero drop minimalist footwear demonstrating that even with a "stiff, high arch foot" that "cushioning" is not necessary nor desired and encourages and teaches his clients how to actively and gradually follow his lead.
Currently, Tim serves as the Director of Fortitude Physio and since 2019 has been with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in Victoria, as a Clinical Panel Consultant (Physiotherapy) ensuring TAC funded physiotherapy providers are aligned with evidence-based practice and the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services.
His whole person/integrated systems approach considers physical, psychological, and social factors (emotional, spiritual, familial and thematic patterns) to provide comprehensive care that empowers self-management and values-focused recovery towards clear functional goals and aspirational outcomes.
